How big a part did the community feedback play in this title?
The development team is always asking BlackHat what the community thinks about this or that idea. Much of the feedback and discussion that appears on message boards makes it's way to developers in one form or another. Additionally, the team has been on the phone several times with certain "community leaders" who run sites and are in a position to have their fingers on the pulse of the community opinion, and they discuss the sorts of things the community are looking for, what can be achieved, and what the community expects from this game and this team.
Did any of the Idea's put forth, "by the community" make it into the title?
Some ideas stick, some don't. Some are things that EA already had planned. The community feedback has been invaluable, though, and the developers always try to take that into consideration when adjusting things.
What kind of control will you have over the drop?
Each drop starts in the plane, where you'll be seated with the rest of your stick. You can look around at this point to see what's going on. The Jumpmaster will give you the command to stand up and hook up, which is automatic, and then everyone starts jumping out of the plane. You have motion control now (though it's cramped quarters), and you move to the door and jump out on your own. If you take too long, though, the trooper behind you could get impatient and push you out. Once in the air, you'll be able to steer your chute forward, back, left and right. You can also slow your descent by flaring the chute. There will be "safe" landing zones marked in the battlefield with green smoke, but if you're feeling brave you can just as easily steer into the thick of things right away.
Will there be wind on the drop?
There will be some times where you might encounter wind while dropping from the plane.
Will players start off in the plane, or will they have to get on the plane and fly to their dropzone?
Players start off in the plane with their stick, relatively near the drop zone. No one wants to wait a couple hours in the plane to fly to their destination
Will there be any ponds or lakes in single player campaign and if so can you land in them or what will happen if you land in it?
There is water in the game, but not in areas you can land. Water was a big no-no for Airborne troops, and almost always spelled death for any trooper who found himself landing in the water (tangled up in a chute with 100 pounds of gear on). The simplest solution to maintain fun gameplay is to simply not drop where there is water.
Will there be achievments for XBox360?
Yes. The full achievements list can be found here: http://www. xbox360achievements.com/
How many maps are there for Multiplayer?
There are six maps for Multiplayer. Three are conversions from Single
Will there be more than 12 players?
Medal of Honor Airborne features up to 12 players for multiplayer and with the inclusion of a dedicated server feature for the PC version, it is possible to increase the number of players.
Will there be an anti-cheat system implemented?
Yes, we’ve implemented a PunkBuster in the box, and we’ve also been working with DMW, a popular Medal of Honor community anti- cheat to give admins options for their anti-cheat solutions.
What is the new content being worked on (i.e. game types, maps, etc…)?
We haven’t announced any specifics for downloadable content yet. First and foremost right now, we are really looking forward to the fans being able to experience all that will be available to them when the game ships.
How long can you stay on the plane during online play before jumping?
In Medal of Honor Airborne multiplayer, the C-47 plane ride lasts 15 seconds. During this time the player can look around, but does not have any movement control. When the green light comes on, each player in the plane jumps out automatically.
How many maps will be available for multiplayer?
Multiplayer in Medal of Honor Airborne will feature six maps. Three of the single player maps have been adapted for multiplayer action, and we rebuilt three Allied Assault maps for the Airborne experience. The Allied Assault maps were chosen through several community polls about people’s favorite maps to play.
Will you be able to choose different skins in multiplayer?
You will not choose different skins in multiplayer. However, the various maps have different skins assigned to them, based on their region. In Husky and Avalanche the Germans are wearing their tropical uniforms and in Destroyed Village and The Hunt they are wearing Fallschirmjager uniforms. Also for both the allied and axis sides, based on the weapon you choose, you will be wearing different gear. The sniper for example is wearing a cap instead of a helmet.
Are the multiplayer versions of the single- players maps altered in any way?
Yes, but only slightly. We made adjustments that would enhance the maps and be more fitting for multiplayer, but left the levels looking very similar to the original single player maps.
Will weapon upgrades be available in multiplayer?
Yes. In unranked games (PC and Xbox360), you can play with all of the weapon upgrades turned on, or all turned off. In ranked games (Xbox360), you’ll earn the upgrades the way you would in single player – by using the weapon skillfully. The difference in multiplayer though is that you upgrade a weapon class instead of just a weapon. That way, if you’ve fully upgraded your Thompson, but want to play on the Axis team for a while, you won’t have to upgrade your MP40. It will be at the same upgrade level as the Thompson you were using. This should give players some more freedom in choosing which team to play and make team balancing easier.
Will there be taunts available in multiplayer?
Yes, there are a variety of pre- recorded taunts in PC. For the Xbox 360, you can use VOIP to create your own smack-downs.
Will we be able to play LAN games in Medal of Honor Airborne?
Medal of Honor Airborne Multiplayer requires an internet connection for minimal information, such as user account login. You can play with several machines all on one switch, as long as the switch has a connection to the web. Each machine does not need to be individually connected.
Will there be a standalone dedicated server for those of us with our own boxes?
Yes, as mentioned above, there will be a dedicated server available with several of the options the community has asked for.
Will Linux binaries be available on launch or soon after?
Yes. This is something the server admins have asked for loud and clear.
How admin-friendly will the servers be (i.e. control panel)?
